M.K. Archibald & Company's involvement in the hardware industry dates back as early as 1904, with the formation of the company McLean & Archibald, for the purpose of retailing hardware. McLean & Archibald were one of the first in New Zealand to offer a comprehensive tool mail order catalogue, in addition to daily operations in the retail and wholesale sector. Owned initially by Robert Archibald, it was his employee and brother M.K. Archibald who later went on to create the present company in 1947. Assisted by the government's allocation of import licenses to returned servicemen, M.K. Archibald & Company as it exists today, was formed as a Hand Tool wholesaling business and has grown from strength to strength ever since.

In 1969, M.K. Archibald & Company was appointed as the sole New Zealand representatives for the Fuller Tool Company Inc. New York. Joining over 100 other Fuller Tool Company wholesale customers, prior to the birth of the large hardware retail groups, M.K. Archibald & Company continue their proud relationship with the Fuller Tool Company to this day.

After a period of substantial growth drew to a close in 1990, M.K. Archibald & Company began scouring the globe in an effort to increase and diversify our product base. These efforts were rewarded when the sole New Zealand agency for the world-renowned Stabila level company was secured.

Today, we are proud to continue to be a 100% New Zealand owned and operated family business, with over 100 years of experience in the New Zealand retail hardware market.
